The Maridel M. Moulton Endowment Fund
The Maridel M. Moulton Endowment Fund was established in 1990 to strengthen the long-term sustainability of the Junior League of Oakland-East Bay and create lasting community impact for generations to come.
Named in honor of past JLOEB President and Association of Junior Leagues International President Maridel Moulton, the Endowment Fund recognizes her extraordinary leadership and enduring contributions to the League movement.
The vision for the Fund emerged during a pivotal moment in JLOEB history. Following the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, JLOEB experienced significant financial challenges when damage to The Shop — the League’s major fundraiser at the time — disrupted a critical source of revenue.
In response, League leaders established the Endowment Fund to provide long-term financial stability and ensure that JLOEB could continue supporting leadership development, volunteer service, and community grants regardless of future economic uncertainty.
The Fund began in 1990 with an initial $10,000 investment and a goal of building a permanent source of support for the League’s mission and community impact efforts.
A major milestone came after the 1992 World Figure Skating Championships, when JLOEB directed a significant portion of its proceeds to the Endowment Fund, helping the League surpass its original fundraising goal.
By 1993, the Maridel M. Moulton Endowment Fund generated its first annual community distribution through earned investment income — establishing a lasting legacy of sustainable philanthropy in the East Bay.
Today, gifts to the Endowment Fund help ensure that JLOEB can continue advancing women’s leadership and supporting meaningful community impact far into the future.
- Why was the fund created?
The fund was established following the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, which severely damaged “The Shop,” the League’s primary fundraiser. Established in 1990, the fund was designed to ensure JLOEB could continue its mission of leadership development and community service regardless of future economic uncertainties.
- Who is Maridel Moulton?
