Junior League of Oakland-East Bay Community Enrichment Fund 2025–2026 grant recipients: A Safe Place and TAGS

The Junior League of Oakland-East Bay (JLOEB) is proud to announce the recipients of the 2025–2026 Community Enrichment Fund (CEF) grants: A Safe Place and Teen Advocacy Going Strong (TAGS).

Each year, JLOEB’s Community Enrichment Fund provides grants to nonprofit and community organizations serving Alameda and Contra Costa Counties whose work aligns with our mission of advancing women’s leadership and improving the lives of women and children in the East Bay.

Grant recipients were recognized during JLOEB’s May 3, 2026 May Celebration following a thoughtful review and selection process led by the 2025–2026 CEF Committee.

A Safe Place LogoA Safe Place

A Safe Place provides a wide range of services focused on addressing and preventing domestic violence, including emergency shelter, legal advocacy, mental health services, prevention education, and community training programs.

Grant funding from JLOEB will support the organization’s legal services program, helping women access free or low-cost assistance with urgent legal matters such as protective orders, child custody, immigration, employment, and housing issues.

A Safe Place is currently the only shelter serving both Alameda and Contra Costa Counties that provides legal assistance as part of its services.

Youth participants engage in hands-on creative workshops including pottery, fashion design, and other artistic programs, while also gaining real-world work experience through TAGS’ community thrift shop and traveling Maker’s Markets.

JLOEB grant funding will help support future creative workshops by covering supplies, instructor support, and related program expenses.

Dear Junior League Community,

I am thrilled to announce we surpassed our Giving Tuesday goal of raising $2,000 and raised a total of $5,600 to support valuable East Bay programs, many of which target homelessness.

As the fund development team lead, I worked together with an army of chefs to create the perfect recipe for our fundraising “soup.”

Special thanks to my team members Chalon Rogers, Akilah Crossdale and Ashley Deluce for sourcing and chopping “content carrots.”

A big thanks to our storytellers Molly Kreuzer, Andrea Vollmer, Nicole Cox, Leslie Fisher, and Elizabeth Ervin for giving some flavor to our soup with compelling stories and elevator pitches.

Ericka Nicholes, as the league president you gave members the space to cook up new ideas. Thank you for your support of our live q&a experiment.

Marketing team, Trish Sagare, Alena Le Blanc, Thelma Andree, and Katrina James, you are the heat that cooked the soup and put a pretty bow on it. Thank you for making our recipe easy to eat.

Ericka Ames and Lisa Parker, thank you for your help taste-testing the soup, with your review of emails and QC of the hosting platform.

And finally, we can’t forget to thank the league members and the community at large. You are the broth, the main ingredient of the soup! We could not have done this without you.

Thank you to everyone who supported this campaign, we hope to see you again next year!

Best wishes,
Kaitlin McCroskey
VP Fund Development

The Membership Council is excited to announce the launch of our new virtual interaction platform, the JLOEB House, hosted on gather.town. The JLOEB House is meant to be a permanent virtual space for our online operations and interactions, much like one would treat an office space.

Everyone in the space gets an “avatar”, a character you control within the space. The space itself looks like the floorplan of a large house, with several meeting rooms, a kitchen, a garden, and a conference room. Your avatar can interact with other avatar in the space via audio and video. You can also interact with various objects placed in the space, including things like video, images, websites, and Zoom meetings. We also have private spaces set up that contain conversation to the area within the space, which can be used for planned meetings or confidential discussions.

Currently, our use of the JLOEB House is in “beta” – that is, we are testing things and seeing what works, what people like, and how we can serve your needs best with the tools we have. Watch this page for updates, and find more information on how to use the space below!

Using Gather.Town: An Introduction to the JLOEB House

See the video recording of our November 5th training on the basics of interacting in the JLOEB House. Also see the PowerPoint deck for more information.

More than 130 Junior Leagues across the Association are coming together to work alongside Vision2020Votes to mobilize a record number of women to cast their ballots in 2020. We can’t think of a better way to honor the suffragists who fought for women’s right to vote, and to solidify their legacy.

The Junior League of Oakland will be joining forces not only alongside other organizations to get the most women involved, but racing together with other Junior Leagues to see who gets the most Members engaged and ultimately create the biggest impact.

What’s the activity?

Vision2020Votes uses Motivote, a digital platform that helps you help your League Members, friends, family and community get ready to vote in the next election. Motivote makes it simple by sharing the most up to date information about voting, walking you through the steps to prepare to vote while earning rewards points along the way for every action you take.

Did you say rewards points?

Yes, you heard right! All participating Leagues are eligible to win monthly prizes for the highest number of “rewards points” completed each month. Our League can win awesome things like free registrations to upcoming conferences and a 1 hour consultation with AJLI’s Social Media Strategist.

PLUS each of you, our members, can use your points to enter to win raffles for Junior League branded swag. We know how much you love swag!

How do I get started?

It’s simple to get set up. Here’s how:

  1. Create your member account. Click this link to access our League’s special Vision2020Votes Motivote page. Create your individual account by entering your name, phone number, email and a password. Need help creating an account? Here’s more info.
  2. Activate your account. You’ll receive an email with an activation link within 10 minutes of signing up. Once you click the link, your account will be active.

JLOEB members are encouraged to participate in pre-election and voting day volunteer opportunities. Shift credits will be awarded for participation.

Get Out the Vote Opportunities with the League of Women Voters (LWV):
The League of Women Voters modified their voter services outreach this year due to Covid-19. The Berkeley/Albany/Emeryville chapter of LWV is offering virtual and in-person/socially distanced volunteer opportunities leading up to the election. Some of these opportunities may require volunteers to attend planning meetings. Non-LWV members are welcome.

  • LWV BAE (Berkeley/Albany/Emeryville):
Currently, volunteers are needed for the following projects:

    • Community Outreach: Reaching out to community groups/orgs and offering to connect them with our different events and resources. Scripts and guidance will be provided!
    • Drop-off materials
    • Bike Caravan
    • Media Design: Video editing, poster design, swag design (t-shirts, buttons, stickers, etc.)
    • Candidate Forum and Pro/Con Forum Volunteers

If you are interested in working on any of the above projects, please email juniorspac@jloeb.org
and we’ll connect you with the Voter Service Coordinator at LWV BAE.

Dear Community,

The Junior League of Oakland-East Bay, Inc. (JLOEB) grieves the murder of George Floyd and other Black lives that have been tragically taken. These deaths were systemic and senseless. For us, they underscore the severity and violence of racism that communities of color experience every day.

As Junior League Leaders, we cannot stay silent and sit on the sidelines watching as our community feels the heaviness of grief. We stand with our Black members and communities who feel this like no other.

As an organization that believes in building better communities and strives for leadership excellence, many of us have asked what we can do. We as Junior League women strive to be civic leaders in our communities. We will do so not only by speaking out against racism, but by doing the work required of us to be anti-racist. We must be humble and vulnerable. We must speak out, and we must be visible. We have to know when to be quiet and listen—and equally important, when to speak up.

“If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor… If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality.” – Desmond Tutu

We raise our voice to unequivocally say that Black Lives Matter. We must give support to our Black members—and all members of color—neighbors, friends, coworkers, partners…and as an organization be an authentic ally in this fight for justice. Our commitment to equity and inclusion is as important as ever.

JLOEB is working to put together additional programming on how we can be agents of change in our community. Below are some of the items we are working on in the coming weeks and months.

  • A “Town Hall” style meeting on systemic racism in conjunction with other Bay Area Leagues
  • Leadership and Membership Trainings on Equity and Inclusion
  • A plan for how JLOEB can support local civil rights organizations and organizations that serve communities of color

We ask you to explore the resources listed below.. It is critical that as leaders in the community we are informed and educated on the topic of systemic racism. Thank you to the members who have shared these valuable resources.
